What is Manda Kashayam and its meaning?

Probably you would have heard about this term “Manda Kashayam” from your friends or colleagues. So what does it mean when that said colloquially?

Manda Kashyam means someone who is a hot head, crack, over-hype, agitator, fanatic, inciter, troublemaker, meddler, mischief-maker…

But what does Manda Kashyam literally mean? I believe you would know what Kashyam is.

Kashayam also Kasayam is a home-brewed Indian ayurvedic medicine used for ailments like indigestion, cough and common cold etc. It is a water extract and an ancient medicine that has been used for a long time. Many are very bitter in taste and the liquid is dark in colour. It is mainly used by South-Indian and Bengali families. (Quoted from Wikipedia).

So what is Manda? You might think Manda is Mandai (Tamil name for the head). But in terms of Ayurveda, Manda is a much-diluted rice gruel (Vadi Kanji).

Here is how to make Manda:  Take rice and water in a bowl in the ratio of 1:14 and boil on a moderate flame. When the rice gets cooked remove it from the flame. Filter and separate the solid part. The liquid part is called Manda and it should be consumed hot. A pinch of salt for taste and pinch of ginger powder can be added.
